Dr. Charles Sweet is a licensed medical doctor in Austin, Texas, specializing in the treatment of ADHD and anxiety disorders in children, adolescents and adults. He is a Johns Hopkins-trained psychiatrist who utilizes the Perspectives of Psychiatry approach to psychiatric care because it examines all aspects of patients’ lives that make up who they are.
This method emphasizes the uniqueness of each individual and the meaning that people’s experiences have for them. It takes into account a patient’s personality, temperament, intelligence, biological predispositions, behaviors (e.g., drug abuse or eating disorders) and life story or experiences. Nature and nurture are both taken into account as part of a comprehensive evaluation.

The Perspectives of Psychiatry approach was first introduced by Dr. Adolf Meyer, who established the concept of psychobiology to encompass the biological, psychological and social aspects of patient’s lives. The concept was further refined by Dr. Paul McHugh and Dr. Phillip Slavney, who formulated the Perspectives of Psychiatry to assess and treat persons in need of psychiatric care.
